Very rare and positively stunning 1860s Swiss waist dating from the Victorian era. Crafted from high-quality black silk and lined with brown muslin, this Swiss waist features lace-up closures on the front and back, contrast stitching in pink throughout, flexible boning and shoulder straps. This garment appears in every way to date to the 1860s, but I find more references to worked or sewn eyelets than metal ones -- these are perhaps a later modification (which is what I'm leaning toward given the presence of a hand-sewn eyelet at the top), or this garment may have been created more toward mid-1870s and combined the Swiss waist style with more modern (at the time) improvements. A gorgeous collector's piece either way, but worth noting! Fully lined, lace-up closures at front & back.
MEASUREMENTS: (taken with garment lying flat; underbust, waist & hips doubled for your convenience) →straps: 14 inches →underbust: 30 inches →waist: 26 inches →length: 10 inches
ESTIMATED SIZE: XX-Small with very small upper underbust and short toros; I think this is best suited as a collector's item than to be actually worn, though it is physically wearable.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition with a few things to note: some discoloration to the lining, as pictured; a smattering of small white spots on the side, as pictured; some wear and fading to the straps; and lastly, replaced ties. This garment came to me without laces. I saw a few other similar pieces laced with Victorian ric-rac, and chose to take this route as it was the most reasonably priced -- I didn't want to drastically increase the cost of this garment by hunting down some of the rarer corset lacings. Please keep in mind this is an antique garment, which means minor signs of wear are to be expected. Any significant flaws are always noted in the description. All garments are mended, cleaned and ready to wear unless otherwise noted.
COLOR: Black with pink stitching and chestnut lining
MORE INFORMATION: No maker or contents labels. Appears to be made of silk and muslin.
PLEASE NOTE: Black Cat Clothiers only accepts returns if a mistake was made in describing the garment, for which we ask you to contact us within 3 days of receiving the garment. Please compare the detailed measurements noted above to one of your garments (not your body measurements; clothing should allow room for movement) that fits you well. Please be aware all monitors display colors differently. Additionally, all of our clothing is pre-owned and vintage/antique, which means each piece may feature minor signs of wear, as noted in the description. To learn more, please view our store policies.
