1880s Victorian Mourning Bell Sleeve Bodice

Regular price $148.00 Sale

Bewitching late 1800s Victorian mourning with the most spellbinding bell sleeves. This garment was created from a luxurious, high-luster black silk and lined in a dark beige silk. The bodice features decorative silk trim on both cuffs, gorgeous smocking details at the top of the sleeve, structural boning throughout, a round neck and rows of black glass buttons. This garment buttons fully as shown in fifth photo; she is too small to button on my dressform. Just as beautiful displayed on your s-curve mannequin as it is donned for the fey ball! I can't rave enough about this garment and have half a mind to keep her forever. Fully lined, hidden hook & eyes + buttons. Eligible for layaway, please contact me for details.

MEASUREMENTS:
(taken with garment lying flat; bust, waist & hips doubled for your convenience)
→shoulder to shoulder: 14 inches
→bust: 32 inches
→waist: 24 inches
→length: 15 inches
→sleeve length: 16 inches + ruffle
→bell sleeve sweep: 23 inches

ESTIMATED SIZE: XX-Small to X-Small; this garment is strong enough to be worn, but due to the very narrow shoulder and upper arm, as well as the overall proportions that call for a corseted figure, she will be best worn by someone very slim and petite.

CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition. Lining shows zero signs of shattering! I've added the buttons, as it came to me without them. The buttons I added are 1880s Victorian mourning glass buttons and very close to what was likely on the garment to begin with. There are a few moth nibbles on the silk; the worst on the back of the shoulder is pictured. A few creases on the sleeves that I've begun to steam out from the inside to prevent shattering, but will need care under new ownership as well. Presents beautifully! Please keep in mind this is a vintage garment, which means minor signs of wear are to be expected. Any significant flaws are always noted in the description. All garments are mended, cleaned and ready to wear unless otherwise noted.

COLOR: Black

MORE INFORMATION: No maker or contents labels. Appears to be made of silk and black glass (French jet) buttons.

PLEASE NOTE: Black Cat Clothiers cannot accept returns due to fit. Please compare the detailed measurements noted above to one of your garments that fits you well. Additionally, all of our clothing is pre-owned and vintage/antique, which means each piece may feature minor signs of wear, as noted in the description. To learn more, please view our store policies.
