Beautiful 1880s Victorian mourning brooch crafted from vulcanite and featuring the very sentimental motif of two roses -- one in full bloom and one still in the bud. Victorian floral imagery was very intentional and often quite sentimental, meaning the imagery here was likely meant to convey two entwined souls with only one going on to live a full life. Pin to your Edwardian whites or black velvets as a memento mori. C-clasp closure at back.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. It appears that the leaf on the right rose was broken off at the very tip - I didn't even notice this until I had been handling it for awhile, so it definitely doesn't pop out. There's some general, normal wear to the surface of the vulcanite and a bit of fading/verdigris -- all normal wear for such a piece. Please excuse the fibers in the close-ups - they were from the cleaning wipe I used and weren't visible to the naked eye! Please keep in mind this is a vintage garment, which means minor signs of wear are to be expected. Any significant flaws are always noted in the description. All garments are mended, cleaned and ready to wear unless otherwise noted.
MORE INFORMATION: No maker or contents labels. Appears to be made of vulcanite with a brass clasp.
PLEASE NOTE: Black Cat Clothiers only accepts returns if a mistake was made in describing the garment, for which we ask you to contact us within 3 days of receiving the garment. Please compare the detailed measurements noted above to one of your garments (not your body measurements; clothing should allow room for movement) that fits you well. Please be aware all monitors display colors differently. Additionally, all of our clothing is pre-owned and vintage/antique, which means each piece may feature minor signs of wear, as noted in the description. To learn more, please view our store policies.
