Lovely early 1910s Edwardian wool matelassé walking skirt featuring an elegant diagonal rib and unusual front gather for movement and flow while walking. Based on a line of stitching to the waistband, this skirt may have been altered at some point -- I typically see these kinds of gathers at the back of the skirt during earlier eras to accentuate a bustle. This garment may have been reinvented at some point to better match new styles, which is fascinating! Beautiful paired with Edwardian lawn blouses or modern knitwear. Unlined, semi-sheer in direct light, hook & eyes at back closure with open slit.
