Divine and rare antique Victorian bodice featuring an unusual blue velvet fabric, button-front, corset boning and lovely structure. This bodice appears to have started life sometime in the late 1860/70s based on the construction and shape, but I think it's been modified (possibly for costume or theatre) since that time. This is a really lovely piece if you don't mind some changes throughout history! Fully lined, boned, buttons up front with hook + thread closures at top and bottom.
MEASUREMENTS: (taken with garment lying flat; bust & waist doubled for your convenience) →armscye: just under 7 inches (this is quite narrow!) →bust: 37 inches →waist: 21 inches →length: 14 inches
ESTIMATED SIZE: XX-Small; watch the narrow armhole as well! Too small to button my dressform.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition. There's some light wear to the face of the velvet, including where the buttons were moved to make this piece about an inch smaller (ugh, I know!) I wanted to move them back, but the damage to the velvet face is just too intense when the stitching is unplucked (as seen on the part of the placket now hidden.) There is some minor discoloration to the interior and some exterior stitching has faded. All in all, this is a rare piece that's sturdy, lovely and ready to wear! Please keep in mind this is a vintage garment, which means minor signs of wear are to be expected. Any significant flaws are always noted in the description. All garments are mended, cleaned and ready to wear unless otherwise noted.
COLOR: Deep, royal blue
MORE INFORMATION: No maker or contents labels. Appears to be made of a lower pile, silk-blend velvet and a cotton-linen muslin lining. Lightly steam as needed.
